Transcription: The Greek scientist and philosopher Aristotle, who lived between 384 BC and 322 BC, tried putting animals into a hierarchical scale, moving downwards from humans at the top, naturally, through quadrupeds, that's four-legged animals, birds, snakes, fish, insects, mollusks, and finally, molds. Remember, around this time, and for about 2,000 years that followed, natural history wasn't really regarded as a very serious subject. It was mathematics and astronomy that really got you talked about.
